CANARIE’s Next Mandate – The Way Forward

CANARIE’s successful mandate renewal paves the way for a new era in advanced networking in Canada. Going forward, CANARIE will focus on three key areas that will ensure Canadian researchers, educators and innovators have the digital network infrastructure and tools they need to engage in world-class discovery and innovation.

Jim Ghadbane will provide context and go-forward plans in three areas:

Network evolution: to meet the 50% yearly growth in research data traffic flowing over the network, CANARIE will build out the network in both capacity and geographic scope;

Build network tools to speed time to discovery: to simplify access to research data and tools and enhance researcher productivity, CANARIE intends to develop a generic cloud-based research toolkit, with a simple user interface; and

Leverage the network to commercialize innovation. Building on the success of the Digital Accelerator for Innovation and Research (DAIR) program, CANARIE will broaden the program’s target market from its current focus on small and medium-sized enterprises, to include ICT researchers and multinational corporations. (A detailed session on the DAIR program is also offered.)

Come and see how CANARIE is evolving and innovating to meet the future needs of Canada’s discoverers, educators and entrepreneurs.
